Staff Training: knowledge of golf and the course

IT DOES NOT TAKE LONG to realize whether someone knows anything about golf or not.  From the way they hold a club, to terms used in a conversation and questions asked.

IT IS IMPORTANT that the locker room staff has a knowledge of golf and the course, as this is part of the overall experience provided by them to the members and guests. Certain details regarding the history of the club also need to be known. For example, when I worked in the locker room at Butler National Golf Club (IL), guests were always impressed by the fact that the course was rated toughest on the PGA Tour when host of the Western Open, which by the way is the second oldest golf tournament in the United States next to the U.S. Open.  Also impressive was the fact that Tom Watson and Seve Ballesteros both said that the fairways at Butler National were the best they ever walked on anywhere.

THE EMPLOYEES should at least tour the golf course from time to time and take advantage of employee golf whether a beginner or a single digit handicap. Knowledge of golf and the course is important.
