Bruce’s TIP OF THE WEEK #8 of 156
Staff Training: “Not sure? Don’t do!”

SORRY TO SAY but it seems sometimes that lessons are best learned and remembered when making mistakes, especially big mistakes, as I am speaking from experience.

WHEN UNCERTAIN how to clean and polish a pair of shoes it is best not to do anything.  Until you know the correct procedure and what cleaners and/or polishes to use, it is impossible to ruin a pair of shoes. This saves upsetting and disappointing the member or guest, being embarrased and possibly having to pay to replace the shoes.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG with admitting to not knowing how to do something.  It actually shows character. Remember, “Not sure? Don’t do!”

An example of what can happen when using neutral or tan paste polish on soft leather shoes. It leaves a greasy mark and changes the texture. Using neutral liquid is just as bad.
